how can i edit and mix sound in a footage from a dvd handycam? how can i completely mute the original sound and add music?

If your computer has a drawer loading DVD optical drive, download and install HandBrake and rip the DVD.

If your computer has a slot loading DVD drive or the optical drive can only handle CDs, you will need to convert the video with an analog/digital bridge.

Once you get the video in the computer, use a video editor (MovieMaker in Windows; iMovieHD in Macintosh) to mute the audio, replace audio, and edit the video... and add titles, credits and transitions.
