Sony i link cable but no firewire port in my pc?

i have a sony handy-cam which i am trying to connect to my pc via usb link up, but its not recognised. It says it cant find the handy-cam because the i link is not connected. I know that an i link is a fire-wire but my computer has no fire-wire port. What do i do? I'm pulling my hair out here. HELP

  2. You are using a miniDV tape based camcorder. ALL miniDV tape based camcorders transfer over firewire. You need to add a firewire port to your computer. They are cheap. Hopefully your computer has an expansion slot  so you can add one. If not, you will need to either get a better computer or transfer using an analog/digital bridge. Video quality will be degraded if you go this route.

    Firewire, i.LINK, IEEE1394a and DV are all the same thing.

    USB will not work. USB/firewire converters will not work.
