The consumer electronics giant has revealed a number of games that can be played on both the PlayStation 3 and the PlayStation Vita.
When Sony showcased the PlayStation Vita at last year’s Electronic Entertainment Expo, they seemed to place a lot of emphasis on the ability of the handheld console to link up with the PlayStation 3.
A number of games were shown where gamers could play the same title on either the Vita or the PlayStation 3. In fact, a number of titles will allow gamers to share content between their two PlayStation consoles.
One such title is FIFA 12 on which gamers can transfer their Career Mode progress on to the Vita, continue playing there and simply transfer the progress back on to the PlayStation 3.
However, in the case of FIFA 12 the user would need to be in possession of both the PS3 and the Vita version of FIFA 12. Yet, Sony have outlined a number of titles that once purchase on either platform, could be used on both.
For example, if one bought the following games on the Vita, they would be able to play it on the PlayStation 3 as well and vice versa.
Sony stated, “MotorStorm RC, Hustle Kings Top Darts and WipEout HD and HD Fury DLC for WipEout 2048 all offer Cross Platform Play, which allows users to compete with gamers regardless of which system they are playing on.”
The announcement continued, “Whether it is real time or turn based play, this new way of competing create a unique gaming experience.”
The consumer electronics company earlier emphasized the important the cross platform feature would play in making the PlayStation Vita a success.
“But it is not only the ability to buy these games for one price and access them across both platforms that makes the relationship between PS3 and PS Vita so important.”
It sounds like an exciting prospect for the handheld console and two for one offers are never a bad thing. Whether or not this feature will be used by video game developers remains to be seen, however, it does open a whole horizon as to what they can do
with the Vita.
