Sony more than hopeful over PlayStation Vita doing well in the market
There have been a number or rumours and speculations floating around, which state that the PlayStation Vita is nothing more than a disaster waiting to happen. However, it seems like Sony are taking the optimistic route and are not letting any of these rumours
act like speed bumps in their plans.
John Koller, who is SCEA’s marketing director, has been amongst the few who feel that there is a vast market for the Vita. In fact, Koller has even gone on to state that the Vita might even be able to get some mobile phone gamers to make a switch and opt
to invest in Vita’s.
“When you look at the type of consumer that's playing cell phone games currently, it's someone that enjoys smaller 'kill time' gaming and has not gravitated to the larger, richer, deeper experiences that true handheld gaming provides,” he said.
The marketing director added, “As we go toward the PlayStation Vita, I can tell you that as we started looking at that product and the market opportunity several years ago, we saw a real strong demographic for those deeper, richer, console-type experiences.”
He then went on to further elaborate over just how the Vita was a major step forward from the PSP and how its gameplay was going to be far superior, due to its new control systems.
The Vita has a touch screen on the front of the console and a touch pad on the back. It will feature voice based controls and integrated wi-fi and cameras in it. As a result, not only is Sony on the verge of destroying the handheld competition, but they
are also looking to enter into the social media market with the Vita.
At the moment, the Vita is said to be released in Japan before the end of the year, with the rest of the world getting their hands on it, early next year. Currently, the only problem that Sony seems to be facing is in regards to placing an adequate price
on the product. With competitors going ahead and making massive price cuts to their device, Sony are going to have to find just the right price to get their sales going.
