Consumer Electronics giant, Sony, have revealed that they have planned content for the PlayStation Vita to ensure a steady stream of game releases till 2013.
Senior Sony executive and the head of the company’s worldwide studios, Shuhei Yoshida, has put to rest any fears that consumers may have over the PlayStation Vita not having any game releases after the release window.
He explained that Sony has a three year plan which was formed to ensure a “constant supply of excellent games.”
Explaining the company’s policy, Yoshida stated, “Generally we look three years ahead when we work on games. We have a fairly firm plan right up to 2013 but, because PS (PlayStation) Vita gives us the opportunity to work on smaller titles like Escape Plan
and Sound Shapes, I’m certain we will end up working on more games than we even know about at this moment.”
Both Escape Plan and Sound Shapes are relatively smaller titles as compared to others yet they have a charm of their own. Escape Plan uses the features of the Vita to full effect while Sound Shapes is more of a creative game that many fans seem to have taken
to.
Mr. Yoshida continued by explaining how the company had learnt from its past mistakes with the PlayStation Portable and was ensuring that they do not repeat them this time round.
“In the past we launched PSP and then shifted our attention to PS3 when that came on the horizon, which we now concede as a mistake. So with PS Vita we are working on this huge range titles and planning ahead for a constant supply of excellent games.”
To bring the reader slightly up to speed and give a bit of background to the statement, the PlayStation Portable was relatively successful when it started off yet the lack of content and games meant that it tended to be collect more dust than accumulate
the number of hours it was used by gamers.
In fact many sceptics fear the same fate for the Vita, which in essence is the successor to the PSP. Yet, seeing how Sony seem to be aware of the situation is encouraging.
Mr. Yoshida also revealed how there were strong pre-orders for a number of launch titles but the two that were leagues ahead of the rest were Uncharted: Golden Abyss and Everybody’s Golf.
With games such as a Resistance title and many others making their way onto the Vita soon, one can begin to see the efforts Sony put in towards the planning of content release.
The PlayStation Vita is already on sale in Japan with the next generation portable console set to release in other territories next year.
