Shuhei Yoshida laughs at the mention of the PlayStation 4 and claims there is plenty of life still left in the PlayStation 3.
The video game industry is abuzz with rumours of the next generation of consoles, which include Nintendo’s Wii U, Microsoft’s, as yet unofficial, Xbox 720 and Sony’s PlayStation 4. Yet despite all of that it seems that Sony, like rivals Microsoft, are determined
to remain tight lipped on any news regarding the PlayStation 4.
Speaking at recent interview, Shuhei Yoshida, who just happens to be the President of Sony’s Worldwide Studios, found a hidden joke in a question about the mysterious PlayStation 4. In fact, he laughed before answering, “I don’t know what you are talking
about.”
Apart from learning how to better disguise an obvious attempt at the ‘no comment’ (which basically is taking as a confirmation of the question posted when it comes to the video game industry) the laughter also suggests that work is being done on the development
of the console.
While that news is nothing new, it is one more sign pointing towards an announcement of the PlayStation 4 in the near future.
Mr. Yoshida then tried to divert the interview away from the next generation and onto the PlayStation 3 by stating that, “We (Sony) are still very excited by the PlayStation 3.”
The PlayStation 3 is close to reaching its full potential, with top first-party developers such as Guerrilla Games (Killzone 3) and Naughty Dog (the Uncharted series) have stated that they are close to reaching the limits of the console.
The latest first-party game currently being teased by Sony is “The Last of Us” which seems to highlight that very point. Not only did the graphics look superb, the gameplay also promises to be a breath of fresh air.
However, news of the console nearing its limits is a double edged sword, as it Sony are known for introducing the next generation of products before the current generation has reached its full potential.
That are strong rumours circulating that both the PlayStation 4 and the Xbox 720 will be making an appearance at this year’s Electronic Entertainment Expo.
