Executive claims Vita is excellent value for money.
Shuhei Yoshida, the President of Sony Worldwide Studios, claims that it is too soon for a price cut and that the current emphasis is on bringing more, quality content for the portable gaming device.
The PlayStation Vita has been struggling in terms of sales by analysts’ standards, while Sony maintain that the console is doing well. Whichever side of the story the reader wants to believe there is no denying that two major talking points for the Vita
have been its price and the lack of content on the console.
While the latter is slowly becoming less of an argument the pricing point has come to the forefront. However, Yoshida believes that in terms of value for money, the Vita is priced fairly. He said, "Oh, absolutely. From the value for money standpoint, we
think we have a good price for what the system is. And our priority is to achieve the potential through more games and services."
At the same time consumers are also hesitant from purchasing a Vita due to the fact that the purchase of a memory stick is also recommended, with a number of titles only playable with additional memory.
Yoshida acknowledged this fact saying, "Of course people who are looking to buy are also talking about the price of PS Vita, especially when they have to buy a memory card as well.” Before admitting that they were working on bringing the costs down. "That's
something we have to spend time to cost reduce and address in the future.”
However, Sony’s immediate concern was to address the lack of content on the console. “But now, our laser focus is to increase the content and to realise the potential of the system."
A number of titles have been released for the console with Mortal Kombat standing out prominently as the title that has boosted sales along with Resistance: Burning Skies. Yet a number of titles are also in development including Black Ops: Declassified and
Assassin’s Creed: Liberation.
It is more heavy hitting titles such as those that Sony will be looking to deliver in order to end the slump in sales of the console.
