  1. Oh lawd....

First of all, there are rules concerning pronunciation, so NO you can NOT spell a name any way you want and assign it a pronunciation. That is ridiculous. Jemilei = gem-ee-lay or gem-ee-lee

Second, Amyllee, Jemilei and Ghemmalygfhfiailöykdjsifhdusifn are still said like EMILY, so why put that burden on your child and the people around it, who have to learn an entirely nonsensical spelling?

Kindergarten teacher: "Hi sweetie, which Emily are you again? Emmaleigh, Emily, Emillee, Amayleighhhhh or Immaaghleeeee?"

Kid: "I don't know. Ask my mommy."

  2. does she want her baby to b made fun of?the way she spelled sophia is rediculous, that is not sophia that is like naming the kid Zodey, and the emily names...amyllee would sound like amy lee. and the other spellings r horrible...poor kid...

  3. yah, those spellings will REALLY confuse people, you can have a little variation (like Megan can be Meghan, Maegan, Meagan etc.) but those are really confusing and it's the CHILD who has to live with the name, not the mom.  if you had to go with one i would go with Emmileegh.  it's the most normal looking one, but the extra M's and E's look a little messy. and have your friend google "Zodhhdii" and there are NO matches.  and when she gets a job later in life, people with VERY unusally names or spellings are less likey to get called back versus those with more common names.

tell her about a girl from New Zealand, her name was "Talulah does the Hula from Hawaii" that was her full name, show her stuff about that, and maybe she'll realize that the child might be embrassed when she gets older from her name.

  4. Just tell her what you told us :)

    Good luck!

  5. Tell her she can use different spellings withouth being crazy. I mean, do you really think her kindergarten teacher will know that Zodhhdii is supposed to be Sophia?

  6. Ewwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww

Be frank and tell her it sucks!

  7. tell her not to give a rediculous spelling... if she wants something unique she shoulld try:

    Emily-- Emmalee, Emaleigh, emileigh, emilee,

    sophia-- sofeea, sophea

  8. Tell her it is just annoying and every time people look at a spelled wrong name they just think " How stupid "

  9. "Baby's Named a Bad, Bad Thing."

    But pronounce it so-FEE-uh.

Good luck to you and her baby.

  10. I agree with you, I can't stand "unique" spellings. Just tell her how her child will have to explain thier name to everyone and correct everyone for people calling her Jem-il-lei or Ghem-ily. Spell the name right!

  11. She needs to think about what she is doing to this child's future and how illiterate this will look on the resume of a grown-up.  This is just an evil thing to do to your kid.

  12. THAT IS HORRIBLE ! CHILD ABUSE ! AHH! tell it to her flat out! how is Zodhhdii say sophia? maybe in like, swahilli or something. i feel so bad for that child. she would be called zody for the rest of her life. that is absolutely RIDICULOUS.

Emelei isnt too bad if she wants to be uniuqe

    Sopheea maybe?

  13. how about:

    sofia

    emilia

    amelia

    emilee
