Soon going to Havana-need 3 nights accommodation-how 3easy to get Casa accommodation?

Im travelling to Havana,Cuba in two weeks and heard about staying at peoples homes - they gather at the buses where the tourists get dropped off to invite you to stay for a CUC fee/night.

Is this done a lot in Havana also? How safe is it?- Im a single female and have 3 nights to arrange before I travel to meet others. Id love to experience staying with a family, and also they know about organised days out to see the countryside? Heard about the possibility of this from a guy who was over there in the last year..

Very easy. Google the site "cubajunky" and on there is a man named "Pototo" in havana. he can get you a casa particular. the only thing is, casa particulars and rental cars and the bus company are famous for bumping you even if you have a reservation - even for many months ahead. Cubans are so desperate for money that the bribe is very popular. For ex: you have a reservation for 3 days. Here comes somebody in person who wants 3 weeks over the same time period. He gives away your time period. You show up and he says 'I booked you down the street with my friend" and where he booked you is not the standard you wanted or expected. Happens all the time. I booked a rental car 3 months in advance - got there and no car. It was xmas and I ended up stuck in a remote area with no car because none were available at all so there was nothing to do for 2 weeks. Ruined my whole vacation. i got reimbursed by the company but that didn't fix my vacation. Even a "friend" will do this to you. My friend had this done to her by a personal friend, who owns a casa particular . Anyone will do this to you. People in Cuba are desperate and that is just how things are. Same thing happened to me with a  bus reservation Havana to Camaguey. Made it 3 months in advance. 1 day before I was to leave I was called and told I had no reservation on the bus. I had to get to Havana, get to bus station and tell someone off and tell them you get me on that bus or else. So they just gave someone else's reservation away. Reservations don't mean much in Cuba.

If you don't go at Xmas or at other holiday times like Easter etc. you should not have a problem.

but Casas are all over the place - esp. in Havana. I used to have a web page of them. If I can find it I will post it.

There are lots of casa particular in Havana. Normaly it's safe. For a minimum of comfort avoid Old Havana. The best casa's

(private rooms) are in the Vedado district .....

check the different websites for addresses  Chose 2 or 3

addresses , so you can easely change if you don't like a casa. Lot's of casa's are good but don't expect "hotel service"

It's safe for a single girl in Cuba...but naturally keep your senses and always be aware of your surroundings...and make sure you choose a place you feel you'd be comfortable at and with a family.
