Soon to be hall of famer, Mike Modano to return to NHL for one more season?
Mike Modano, who is Dallas Stars’ overall leading all-time goal scorer, assists and point scorer could be thinking about an NHL comeback.
The 42-year-old, who was voted to be inducted into U.S hockey hall of fame this season, has regrets that he could not finish his career the way he wanted it to, so his comeback’s possibility cannot be ruled out.
Modano was taking part in a press conference on Monday, on his hall of fame induction was this question about his was brought up by one of the journalists present. The veteran centre did not dismiss the possibility completely.
The Livonia, Michigan, born player, participated in 17 seasons with Dallas Stars from 1993-2010, before moving to Detroit Red Wings for one last season (2010-2011). But his last season with Red Wings was largely affected by injuries as he could play just
40 games, scoring just four goals, 11 assists, stats which definitely do not tell the class of the player and do not match his career achievements.
"I've never really been able to fully close the door on that deal. I think my last year in Detroit was a lot of fun, and I wish it would have ended differently, with the injury and everything. I wish it would have ended better, and there's a taste in your
mouth about leaving the way it was it still haunts me."
Even though he wants to return but it does not necessarily mean he would be able to come back. A lot is going to depend on his fitness and how his body behaves before he takes a decision to come back.
Modano has not spoken to any side if they want him nor he is sure, if he would be able to make himself as good as a player to play NHL.
He thinks he is in some dreamland or imaginary world, thinking about himself making a comeback. Though he has agreed that it is in the back of mind somewhere, but also admitted that he does not see it happening right now as he said,
“I think in the back of my mind, I would love to see something work out where I could go back for a year, but I don't know … I don't see it."
