Soong Joo Ven defeats Chong Yee Han to clinch his first Boy’s Singles title at Selangor Open
Malaysia’s young and passionate shuttler, Soong Joo Ven, proved his impressive skills by nailing his first Boy’s Singles title at the Selangor Open on Sunday, February 26, in Kuala Lumpur.
In the final showdown, Joo Ven put up strong performance and outplayed Chong Yee Han to claim the title in an emphatic fashion.
It was a completely one-sided fight where Joo Ven showed his aggression and elevated skills and remained successful in ending the match in straight games by taking just 20 minutes in the court.
Joo Ven started the opening set in a thrilling way as he played to his maximum speed and took no time in setting up an early lead.
He remained in control and dictated the pace of rallies against his confused opponent who failed to play positive badminton.
Joo Ven, who is a shuttler from Bukit Jalil Sports School (BJSS) showed his aggression in the opening half and remained successful in establishing a remarkable lead.
After the break, Joo Ven remained on track and showed no mercy to his rival. He was playing on a different level and ended the opening set in a tremendous fashion with a stunning margin of 21-9.
In the second game, Joo Ven again took an early lead in the game and kept his rival under pressure. He did not lose his focus at any stage and played positive badminton to take a wonderful lead until the break.
After the interval, Joo Ven continued his impressive play and remained successful in winning the second set by a one-sided 21-9 score on the board.
Joo Ven won the title match in straight games with a stunning score of 21-9 and 21-9.
After the match Joo Ven said, “I am extremely happy to nick my first Open title. This will give me great motivation as I prepare for the Asian and world junior championships this year.”
He further added, “I am not as fit or as powerful as many players my age but I am consistent. I look up to South Korean Lee Hyun-il because I think both of us have a similar style of play. We do not have power but we rely on our skills.”
Joo Ven is spirited and determined to shine in the Asian and World Junior Championships to prove his worth at international level.
