Soong Joo Ven serves notice of his potential in Asia Youth U-19 Championships – Badminton news
Malaysia’s young and talented shuttler Soong Joo Ven played impeccable badminton in the group stage of 100 Plus Badminton Asia Youth U-19 and registered his first win on July 8, 2013.
He locked horns with an Indonesian player Hadmadi Firkri Ihsandi and their meeting prolonged to 61 minutes. This three-set match ended with a nerve-racking result of 14-21, 21-15 and 11-21.
The Malaysian campaigner relished full benefits of home ground and won this tussle by prevailing in the opening and ending segments. Meanwhile, Hadmadi Firkri could pocket only the second match point.
In first set of the match, Joo Ven played with an aggressive approach and kept his opponent at the lower end in most part of the game. He started the beating immediately from the beginning and mounted pressure by claiming many valuable points in a row.
This initial lead helped him to finish first half of the set with a favourable score on the board. After the one-minute interval, Joo Ven lost focus for a short span of time and allowed the opposing shuttler to proceed on the points table.
However, he managed to end this bad patch and reinstated his dominance third quarter of the set. He registered a winning margin of 21-14 and marched into second set with a psychological edge.
The second set of match was full of surprises as the Indonesian shuttler showed a transformed character and brought the contest to right balance. This time he played with right attitude and fortitude to avoid a straight-set defeat.
In first half of the set, Hadmadi played with a cautious approach but then the latter part of the game saw him playing aggressively. He maintained a decent difference of six points till the game point situation and placed a concluding total of 21-15.
Third set of match locked both contenders in a tough trial. They stood toe-to-toe in the beginning but then Joo Ven struck hard and tipped the scale in his favour. He piled up a mountainous figure of 11 before interval and then served the notice of his supremacy
by registering an overwhelming figure of 21-11.
