i have an 8 week old and i'm just wondering if all babies have trouble keeping these in their mouth? she's still so little, so it's understandible that she can't really coordinate her sucking right all the time, but i'm stuck holding her 'choopy' in her mouth for her, and it get's tiring when i have to keep going back and sticking it in her mouth every 30 seconds-while she screeches at the top of her lungs, thinking it's gone forever. she loves them! anyways, is it just the brand that's difficult? iff so, are there any other pacifiers similar to the soothie ones that are more easily held onto?

  1. Oh it was so cute when my son was a newborn and my husband would give him the hospital soothie pacifiers (vanilla scented).  My son would always drop it after about 10 seconds and start to cry.  As my husband patiently put it back in, he'd talk with him about the laws of Gravity.  It was just about the cutest thing I've ever seen.  When my son would drop it, my husband would give the same gravity talk . . . over and over.  I loved it!

  2. my son always spits his out then cries cuz he wants it back

  3. i bought the soothie..and my son hated it...he didn't know how to keep it in his mouth..i've tried so many different kinds...

now he loves the NUK brand. he can actually keep this in his mouth..

  4. My daughter is 13 weeks old and has a horrible time keeping a pacifier in her mouth, no matter what kind we use. (We've never used the Soothie ones though, but just about every other kind.). She's a big fan of ones from Playtex though, I'm not sure what they are called but they're like pink, yellow and orange on one and purple, green, and a lighter puprle on another, she prefers those over any other one.

  5. I have noticed that all small babies have a hard time hanging on to the pacifier. She will get the hang of it....

  6. My babies are almost 5 months old and STILL have trouble holding them in soothies are WONDERFUL choopies I love them but yea it's hard to keep it in there mouths I suggest rolling up a receiving blanket and placing it ON the choopie to hold it in I used to put my 2 on there sides and put a receiving blanket next to there heads to hold them in and they did great!!  Good luck and congrats on your wee one!!

  7. Have you tried maybe a smaller pacifier? I know those might help. They are helpful soothers but you shouldnt have to hold it all the time. Try one that isnt round one that is kinda molded to the mouth. My sone had one that worked it doesnt make the tounge bow down and it fits the roof of the mouth. Good Luck

  8. My baby is 2 weeks and she has trouble keeping it in too.  Luckily, she only wants it to stop crying and then she will spit it out and suck on her hands.  She doesn't use it that often with me.

I didn't want her to have a pacifier to begin with, but she was sick and had to stay in the nursery in the hospital for 5 days because of her breathing, and when she cried too much her oxygen levels went wacky.  They asked me permission to give her a pacifier to keep her calmer.  Now, she likes it, but isn't totally dependent on it.

My little brother had one when he was a baby and my parents couldn't get him to get rid of it until he was 3!  It was the vanilla smell in it.  It was like baby crack!!

  9. My son can't keep them in either.  I quit using them weeks ago and started using the Gerber orthodontic ones.  I strictly breastfeed and was worried about nipple confusion, but there is no problem and he keeps them in.

  10. My daughter used the soothie in the hospital but when we came home I gave her a winnie the pooh one that was slightly smaller and she never went back to the soothie.  She would only use the MAM ones with the bulb type nipple not the slanted ones.  She would ONLY take the Soothie bottle though. Ha ha.  I bought a ton of different bottles and couldn't find one she did good with so I decided to give the Soothie a try cause they gave me one at the hospital and she loved it...and used it till she was 1.

My son on the other hand...would only take the Soothie pacifier for the first 4 months.  It was tough for him to keep it in his mouth too.  I found myself holding it in 3/4 of the time he sucked on it for awhile.  He eventually got the hang of it.  He lost his soothie though and I only had MAM's here that I had bought before he was born....it was tough switching him to a different one...for awhile I had to hold the new one in his mouth too.  He is doing great with the MAM's now.

I would try some different ones and see what she likes best.

  11. My son is 4 months old and only takes the soothie pacifiers.  You may try a couple of brands if you're that annoyed, your baby may actually take to another one better.  If not, just stick it out.  Seems like my son had a little trouble keeping it in at first as well.

  12. Lucky you. My 9 week old wont take the paci. He only uses me 24-7 !!! I think holding it in her mouth is better lol!

  13. i used the regular nuks and my daughter never had a problem. never used the soothies though

  14. Lol, I used to wonder the same thing, but my daughter used Nuk's for about 3 weeks before abandoning them altogether. She actually starting holding it in while we were at the hospital, she used to clench her fist in front of it to keep it there. But no, there really aren't any that stay put, lol. Good luck!

  15. I like the MAM 'choopies' best. But every baby is different, and you need to experiment with different brands to find the one that works best for your baby. Even on day 1 after my baby was born, he figured out how to keep the 'choopy' in his mouth. So age should not be an interference with "knowing" or "not knowing" how to suck.

  16. My son liked the MAM kind and that was all he would use. However he still had a hard time keeping them in him mouth and I too was running back to him every thirty secs to a min and it got very tiring. I advently took it away completely by the time he was about nine weeks  think because I was so tired of hearing that screech song you brought up. It took about an hour before he forgot about it and now he is five months and wont even take one anymore. I am glad I took it away cuz I know it gets harder to take it away the older they get but sometimes I miss him being able to use it as a soother. I would suggest you try someother ones first and then if that does not work and you are ok with running back ever 30 secs then go ahead and keep doing it because the older she gets the better she will be able to keep it in on her own.

  17. my son could never keep it in either.  Once he figured out how to suck his fingers he decided he was done with it.

  18. idk about the size it sounds like she enjoys her binker....but maybe not that type, try MAM brand (i use) or the nuk ones, if she likes it she will keep a grip on it good! also get the newborn kind, like mam sells a 0-2 mo.  and a birth-6 month and then 6mo+ maybe try the 0-2 mo!
