Sophie Allen captures Women’s 200m IM title – 2012 FINA Swimming World Cup, Berlin
Sophie Allen of Great Britain captured gold medal of the Women’s 200m Individual Medley (IM) on first day of the 2012 FINA/ARENA Swimming World Cup in Berlin, Germany on Saturday, October 20.
The British swimmer smothered hopes of her opponents in the eight-lap race and proved her eligibility for the crown. With her unrelenting efforts in the IM, she remained almost full body length ahead of her opponents and surfaced on the wall for gold medal.
Allen demonstrated her commendable form in the 200m discipline and transpired on the finishing end for the title by clocking an effort of 2 minutes and 07.52 seconds.
The champion was followed by Zsuzsanna Jakabos of Hungary, who was 1.02 seconds behind and stepped on the victory stand for silver medal by submitting an effort of 2 minutes and 08.54 seconds.
Jakabos was chased by Celina Li of USA, who was just half a body length slower from her foregoing finisher and tapped the wall for bronze medal by posting a time of 2 minutes and 08.95 seconds.
Fourth position of the race was obtained by Katinka Hosszu of Hungary, who stayed 0.19 seconds apart and surfaced on the wall with an effort of 2 minutes and 09.14 seconds.
Hosszu was chased by Kaitlyn Jones of USA, who stayed more than a body length behind and touched the wall for fifth position with a timing of 2 minutes and 10.34 seconds.
Sixth spot of the event was obtained by Theresa Michalak of Germany, who was 1.01 seconds apart and ended her race in a time of 2 minutes and 11.35 seconds.
Subsequently, Michalak was chased by Rongrong Zheng of China, who stayed one and a half body length behind and clocked a time of 2 minutes and 12.94 seconds for seventh place.
Eighth position of the race was obtained by Katrine Holm Soerensen of Denmark, who was 0.79 seconds behind and finished her swim in a time of 2 minutes and 13.73 seconds.
In addition, Allen was overjoyed with her gold finish in the race and collected medal for her alluring form after the session.
