Sophie Pascoe seizes Women’s 100m butterfly gold – 2012 Paralympic Games
Sophie Pascoe of New Zealand seized gold medal of the Women’s 100m butterfly in S10 category on third day of the swimming events at the 2012 London Paralympic Games in Aquatics Centre on Saturday, September 1.
Pascoe serve notice of her talent in the double lap butterfly event, where she grabbed gold medal in a world record time. She remained considerably ahead of her challengers throughout the race and hit the wall for gold medal.
With her persistent efforts, Pascoe enjoyed a four-body length lead over her toughest challenger and hit the wall for the crown by clocking a time of 1 minute and 04.43 seconds.
Her title claiming effort remained 4.12 seconds ahead of Oliwia Jablonska of Poland, who pocketed silver medal of the event by hitting the wall with a timing of 1 minute and 08.55 seconds.
Jablonska was followed by Elodie Lorandi of France, who stayed 0.53 seconds slower and transpired on the finishing blockade for bronze medal by reporting a time of 1 minute and 09.08 seconds.
Third position holder was chased by Nina Ryabova of Russia, who stayed only 0.05 seconds behind and settled on the wall as fourth fastest swimmer by clocking a time of 1 minute and 09.13 seconds.
Fifth fastest spot of the race was secured by Katherine Downie of Australia, who was 1.07 seconds apart and surfaced on the finishing end as fifth fastest swimmer by reporting a time of 1 minute and 10.20 seconds.
Downie was chased by Anna Eames of USA, who stayed only one stroke away from her foregoing finisher and touched the wall for sixth position by submitting a time of 1 minute and 10.57 seconds.
Eames was traced by Isabel Yinghua Hernandez Santos, who remained 1.40 seconds slower from her preceding swimmer and clocked a time of 1 minute and 11.97 seconds for seventh position.
Eight spot of the race was secured by Gemma Almond of Great Britain, who remained one and a half body length behind and reported an effort of 1 minute and 13.24 seconds.
In addition, Pascoe expressed happiness over her title claiming effort and collected her medal after the event.
