Sophie Smith wins Women’s 200m IM title: Day two – 2011 Commonwealth Youth Games
Day two of the 2011 Commonwealth Youth Games began in stunning fashion at Isle of Man, on Saturday, September 10. The session of the meet conducted several swims. Sophie Smith of England won the Women’s 200m IM title, while Te Haumi Maxwell of Australia
snared the Men’s 100m freestyle crown. Ami Matsuo of Australia took home the Women’s 50m freestyle title, whereas, Corey Main of New Zealand captured the Men’s 50m back-stroke crown.
Firstly, England's Sophie Smith powered the wall in 2 minutes and 12.49 seconds to win the Women’s 200m IM title. In the corresponding swim, Northern Ireland's Sycerika McMahon snatched the silver medal with a winning time of 2 minutes and 13.97 seconds
and Australia's Kotuku Ngawati settled for bronze in a time of 2 minutes and 15.12 seconds.
In the Men’s 100m freestyle final heat, Australia's Te Haumi Maxwell earned golden crown on the podium by posting a matchless time of 48.48 seconds. After the swim, Maxwell was immensely happy with his splash. Wales' Ieuan Lloyd grabbed silver in a time
of 49.59 seconds, while Scotland's Alisdair Stirling secured bronze medal after finishing in a time of 49.94 seconds.
Then, the Women’s 50m freestyle title was clinched by Australia's Ami Matsuo with a winning mark of 25.19 seconds. Adelaide Hart earned silver in a time of 25.22 seconds, while South Africa's Marne Erasmus picked bronze medal after she touched the finishing
wall in the respective meet with a time of 25.86 seconds.
Last, but not the least, the Men’s 50m back-stroke crown was taken over by

New Zealand's Corey Main with an inspiring mark of 25.24 seconds. In the corresponding race, Grant Halsall of Isle of Man took home silver medal on the podium by posting a matchless time of 25.32 seconds and Australia's Robert Gerlach snared bronze medal in
a time of 25.38 seconds.
The arena gave a huge ovation to all participants of the meet, while the winners were awarded medals and accolades on account of their impeccable swims after the session’s completion.
