Sophie Taylor pockets Girls 200m freestyle gold – State Teams SC Championships
Sophie Taylor of NSW pocketed gold medal of the Girls 200m freestyle in 15-16 years age group on day three of the 2012 State Teams Short Course Championships at the Australian Institute of Sport in Canberra on Monday, October 8.
The 15-year-old Taylor stunned the aquatic crowd with her gruelling form in the 200m discipline as she paved her way to the wall for the crown.
Taylor faced tough contest from Megan Gianotti from the start but with her unrelenting efforts in the final lap, she ensured her place on top of the victory stand.
With her unrelenting efforts, she remained just an inch ahead of her following swimmer and clocked a time of 2 minutes and 00.44 seconds.
Taylor remained 0.08 seconds faster from Gianotti of QLD, who made her way to the finishing blockade for silver medal by reporting a time of 2 minutes and 00.52 seconds.
Gianotti was chased by Chelsea Gillett of QLD, who was 0.15 seconds apart and surfaced on the wall with a timing of 2 minutes and 00.67 seconds for third position.
Fourth position of the event was obtained by Brittan McEvoy of QLD, who was 0.90 seconds behind and surfaced on the wall with an effort of 2 minutes and 01.57 seconds.
Fifth fastest spot of the event was secured by Bonnie Zhang of NSW, who was 0.14 seconds apart and tapped the wall with a timing of 2 minutes and 01.71 seconds.
Zhang was chased by Natalie Vercher of VIC, who stayed half a body length behind and occupied sixth position of the race by reporting a time of 2 minutes and 02.15 seconds.
Seventh spot of the event was obtained by Taylor Green of QLD, who was just 0.01 seconds behind and posted a time of 2 minutes and 02.16 seconds.
Green remained one and a half body length ahead of Paris Zhang of NSW, who ended eighth in the race by submitting a time of 2 minutes and 03.85 seconds.
In addition, Taylor received a huge round of applause from the audience for her gruelling form after the event.
