Sophie Taylor wins Girls 200m freestyle title: Australian State Teams Age Short Course Championships
Sophie Taylor of New South Wales won the title of Girls 200m freestyle final in the 13-14 years old category on the subsequent day of the 2011 Australian State Teams Age Short Course Championships on Sunday, September 18. The event was held at the Australian
Institute of Sport (AIS) in Canberra.
Taylor achieved the gold medal of the even in a State Team Record time of 2 minutes and 01.95 seconds. With her invincible effort, she remained 0.86 seconds under the mark of previous title-holder, Remy Fairweather of Queensland, who clocked a time of 2
minutes and 02.81 seconds in 2010.
Furthermore, the gold medallist maintained a lead of 1.50 seconds over her following swimmer, Chelsea Gillett of Queensland, who submitted a time of 2 minutes and 03.45 seconds for silver medal. Gillett was trailed by Taylor’s team-member, Paris Zhang, who
remained just 0.35 seconds slower than her and reached the podium for silver medal by posting a time of 2 minutes and 03.80 seconds.
The fourth position of the event was secured by Zhang’s team-member, Meg Bailey, as she was only 0.12 seconds slower than her and completed her swim in a time of 2 minutes and 03.92 seconds. Hailey was followed by Gillett’s team-mate, Taylor Green, who remained
1.56 seconds behind her and reported a time of 2 minutes and 05.48 seconds.
In the meantime, Candice Wall of Western Australia appeared on the finishing wall for the sixth finest spot of the swim, as she remained 0.22 seconds behind and posted a time of 2 minutes and 05.70 seconds. Meg Parry of Victoria was the seventh finest swimmer
of the discipline, as she clocked a time of 2 minutes and 06.31 seconds. The eighth position of the event was claimed by Chelsea Gubecka of Queensland, who remained only 0.17 seconds slower than her preceding swimmer and ended her swim in 2 minutes and 06.48
seconds.
In addition, the crowd admired the scintillating efforts of all age group competitors in the freestyle discipline, while the championship will conclude on September 19, after the completion of all scheduled events.
