Toughest draw for the Romanian starlet, Sorana Cirstea, in the opening round of the Roland Garros French Open forced her to exit Paris on the first day. She was up against the defending champion from China, Li Na, who slaughtered
her in straight sets 6-2, 6-1.
This forced her to drop multiple places in the rankings as well and she went down to world number 51 from the 43rd spot. It is disappointing to see such a talented player being forced out of the Top-50 players in the
world. She was on course to break into the Top-20 players earlier this year but couldn’t sustain her form and lost some crucial points on her way down to world number 43.
However, there is no doubt about her temperament. She can always raise her game and register upsets. She will start her grass court season in AEGON Trophy; participated in draws ceremony of the tournament last week. She was accompanied
by the likes of the Slovak tennis ace, Daniela Hantuchova, and the former world number one, Jelena Jankovic, who are also participating in the tournament.
Some of the eye-catching performances by the Romanian 22-year-old starlet include the upsets against the Aussie number one, Samantha Stosur, in the opening round of the Australian Open. She dumped Vera Zvonareva in the quarter-final
of the PTT Pattaya Open and registered the biggest upset against the French number one, Marion Bartoli, in the opening round of the Mutua Madrid Open. So, the charm is there. She just needs to build some composure and lift her game up when she is completely
down and out. She surrenders a bit too early when the things are not happening for her. She needs to build a habit of grabbing the opportunities allotted to her and make sure that her opponent doesn’t exploit her weaknesses very easily.
AEGON Trophy is just around the corner where the grass court test will start for the Romanian beauty queen. She has got the ability to defy the odds and upset top seeds to win the maiden title of the season. She just needs to regroup
