Question:

Sore, hard spot on breast?

i woke up this morning and my right breast really hurt. there's this hard spot on the right side of it that is very tender when touched or rubbed against something like my bra. i've only just turned 15 though, so i thought maybe i was just growing, but i got my first period quite awhile ago.. when i was 11, so i thought i would've stopped majorly growing by now. my mother had breast cancer last year though, so i know it's in my genes, but she's my only relative i can think of that has had it. do you think it's breast cancer? could a muscle possibly be in a knot there? or am i just growing?

  1. Hun, I am not exactly sure what that could be at your age, BUT you need to tell your mother or somebody who can get you to the docotors ASAP.  Better safe than sorry, I hope it is nothing, but good luck, and PLEASE get this taken care of right away!!

  2. go to the doctor

he'll give you a better answer than us

  3. Why don't you talk with your mom.  Give it a full 48 hours to go away --I bet it will- before you talk to her though.  Or if you think it would be too distressing for her talk to your Grandmother or an aunt.  I don't think it is because you are growing, that is more gradual.  Think of all the things you did in the last three days,  Did you jab something, like a book,  into your breast area?  Did you get hurt at sports.  These are questions a doctor will ask you if you have to go later so you need to think about them.

As I said give it 48 hours and see what goes, it may go away. You also may have giant zit there. those hurt.  Have Mom take a look.

  4. If it does not go away soon, go get it checked out by a doc.

  5. At the age 15, it's VERY unlikely that it's breast cancer. Not only that, but typically (not always though), breast cancer is not painful. Not to mention, 80% of breast lumps are benign (non cancerous). It could be a cyst. Best to talk to your doctor.

  6. You can also get cysts in your b*****s. They feel like somebody stuck a marble in there. Your doctor can aspirate it with a needle, or leave it alone to see if it goes away on its own. They can develop and disappear pretty quickly.

Most of the time, the lumps are NOT going to be cancer, but since you now have it in your family history, you can't just ignore it, or keep it to yourself. I'd tell your mom. She's probably a better source of info than we are, at this point.
