Sore Ear - forgot to ask the doctor.

Question

I came home from my holiday on Friday with a sore ear which got gradually worse over the weekend - it's now pure agony.

I am just back from a visit to the doctor and he said my eardrum is very red and full of pus - he gave me a 7 day course of antibiotics.

Do you think this could have been caused by swimming in the pool at our hotel, which was cleaned every night?

Changing my lifestyle, I am now an avid swimmer, so do I need to stay away from swimming (obviously will until ear is better) or is there some form of protection I can use to prevent this happening again - if it was the swimming that caused it?

I got the same thing after a holiday in Crete, but I think it was just wax build up, I used ear drops and it got better.

you could try plugs. ear nose an throat are connected when my sinus are attacking me i get an ear infection too maybe your infection started in your throat. too much fun had on holiday...
