I am about to go to Washington D.C for a school field trip

tomorrow evening and I think I am begining to get tonsillitis again. I had it a few months back and I was taking Amoxicillin (sp?) To help. Do you know any other treatment to help for a few days until I get back from D.C and can go to the doctors?

  1. Well, if you think you're getting tonsillitis again, I would nip over to the doctor to get some antibiotics (Amoxicillin?).

I used to be a little prone to sore throats, & have found that generally the 'over the counter' stuff just does is not strong enough to get rid of the sore throat.

These days though I can go 2 to 3 years with out getting a sore throat.  I must have been due for one lately as just recovered after having a mild sore throat for 2 days.  I know it would have been alot worse if l hadn't taken my usual remedy.

Nowadays, if this happens, I rush out to (what do you call them?) a Chinese Herbal Shop & buy a small box of 'Golden Throat Lozenge'.  The box measures around 3.5" x 2.5" x 1" & there is an oval picture of a funny looking man on the front!  On the back is the wording 'quiet clear spring' with picture of one too.  Inside there are 4 golden coloured packets each containing 5 lozenges (so 20 in a box).  You're allowed to have 1 of these, 6 times a day.

One of my children & I both had iffy throats a couple of days ago.  Our iffy throats are now both gone & we have 4 lozenges left in the packet.  I did buy one more box of 'Golden Throat' just in case, but I found that we did not need to open it.

These lozenges are made from some kind of Chinese herbs. They must be quite safe, as I also took them when I was expecting one of  my children with no side effects.

On the back of the golden packet/s it reads: '...Cure for sore swollen throat, dry and sore throat, hoarse voice caused by acute laryngopharynglitis'.  Definitely wrong spelling there.  I think they mean laryngitis!!!

Anyway, I've found these to be fantastic & they work for me every time!

They do taste pretty strong though, but my 9 year old was able to cope with it without difficulty.

I box (20 lozenges) was abit pricey, but I think they're worth every penny (cent).  It cost £8.00, which is around USD16.00.  Wow - that does sound expensive!

(Sorry this is so long - but why use just 6 words when 300 will do!!!)

Hope you can get started on the recovery of your throat, before you go on your school field trip.

    Nelly x

  2. nothing over the counter

  3. Fresh Lemon Juice

also steep several teaspoons cayenne in about 2--4 cups hot water, then add a little salt (about as much as cayenne pepper) and add equal amount apple cider vinegar as water and drink it. I think it tastes great but some people don't like it. This also will cure cold/flu if you take it right when you're coming down with something

  4. Just get another type of penicillin from the doctor.  He or she will know to give you a different one, if you just had a round of penicillin recently.  Don't try to remedy it with anything else.  Sometimes a person needs penicillin--this is one of those times--make sure you finish the whole treatment or you'll get another recurrence.

  5. GARLIC

    Oil of oregano P73

<<You can only get if from the health food store and it has gotten rid of strep throat, kidney infections, and a few other problems for us. And all of the above was diagnosed by a physician and followed up by a physician as well. I take it because of my sensitives and some life threatening reactions to the majority of antibiotics prescribed by the doctor though. If you have no problem with antibiotics then you really should go see your doctor. You should see the doctor regardless, I had really bad tonsillitis and they ended up having to extract stuff out of my tonsils because antibiotics wouldn't have helped fast enough. My throat was that swollen.

If you do end up taking the oil of oregano you should take half a dropper full like 4 times a day for the first 2 days and then down to once a day until it's gone. And a word of warning, it is very unpleasant. Quite spicy!

  6. You could try some hot lemon and hot honey mix it together and drink it as this is meant to help! Hope it's better soon! : )

  7. Have any Amoxicillin left? Maybe you can see your doc in the morning before you leave and give you something to hold you over.

    cheers

  8. You have 3 ways to eradicate this infection and this is what I do knowing that I'm not a doctor and I know my own allergies if you do this is in your own knowledge and risk of your self so you are responsible for your own decisions

1Take an over the counter desimflamatory pill like Alive gel caps before you go to bed, in the morning your swelling should be gone or greatly reduce and you need to gargle with Listerine, scope or hot salt water this will clear bacteria

2 gargle with hydrogen peroxide 2 times a day this will clear bacteria and swelling will go down by its self only be careful not to drink any peroxide because you will vomit that is a given along with a painful stomachache

3 drink and gargle cinnamon tea it takes more time that the first two but it works.

Hope to feel better and enjoy your trip!!
