Sore knee will not deter Detroit Tigers’ Alex Avila to play Game 4 – MLB News
Alex Avila, who seemed to have a potential worrying injury on Monday, October 3 is set to play Tuesday’s American League Division Series game against the New York Yankees. The starting catcher had tweaked his knee on Monday’s Game 3 against the Yankees.
The player started hobbling when he unintentionally stepped on Robinson Cano’s foot. Soon after the mishap when the catcher hobbled, showing signs of some injury, there was already enough apprehension around on the nature of injury that he had.
Nonetheless, the catcher did not exaggerate the extent of it and made it clearly known that it was merely a minor injury which will heal sooner than later. Avila’s fitness holds tremendous importance for the team as he makes an important component of the
Tigers.
"Minor injuries happen to everybody," Avila said before batting practice Tuesday. "Whether I was injured badly or not, I'm not really coming out of the game anyway, so it doesn't matter."
For him it was just a little twist that did not have to be taken so seriously. After having hobbled for a while, Avila was back in the game. Although the Detroit Tigers failed to gain the upper hand in the game, Avila’s return brought an immediate sense
of relief to the squad.
Avila’s presence in the team is of immense importance to the Tigers because of his tremendous ability to change the outcome of the game in a heartbeat. The team will be looking to him to guide them to a much needed win against the New York Yankees.
Even the team manager, sensing the necessity of the player’s staying around and his valuable contribution, did not want the fans to worry. "His patella is sore. That's all," Leyland said. "That's from trying to hit the ground to crash and block balls and
stuff. He's fine."
The injury, as both the catcher and team manager stated, is not of much to worry about now. Avila will be available for Tuesday’s game and it will be of immense interest to see if he is indeed fit enough to feature in the exciting match-up.
