Sore left wrist results in Brewers Aramis Ramirez’s staying out of Friday’s game – MLB News
The Milwaukee Brewers' third baseman Aramis Ramirez was kept out of Friday’s game against the St. Louis Cardinals as he is encountering a sore left wrist. The third baseman reportedly received cortisone injections to calm down the affected area.
Friday’s decision to give Ramirez rest was to be the second day of the week that the third baseman did not appear in the game. Ramirez who is regarded as the important part of the lineup is nonetheless, expected to play on Saturday.
Cortisone injection, in the team manager Ron Roenicke’s view, shall help the player to remain pain free now. Roenicke shed some light on it while speaking on the matter.
"He's been fighting this thing for a while and it doesn't look like it's going to go away," Roenicke said. "I've tried to give him a day off and it doesn't seem to completely get rid of it. Hopefully he won't have to deal with this the rest of the year."
At a time when Ramirez is playing exceptionally well, the team cannot afford seeing him in the disabled list. Ramirez, it is worthwhile to mention, has maintained an impressive .291 average this season with 67 RBIs to his credit and 13 homers.
To give him rest on Friday, therefore, was necessary because the team does not intend to take any risk that could have its repercussions.
"He's really swinging the bat well," Roenicke said. "But I kind of like doing it because I don't want him to fight this thing the rest of the year."
Brewers have lately witnessed some sharp slump, losing back-to-back games. That unsatisfactory performance, among other things, has led to team’s going down in the National League Central ranking where it was once thought to be a tough competitor.
Now that the Reds are sitting atop the ranking, followed by the Pittsburgh Pirates and the St. Louis Cardinals, the Brewers have to put more efforts to live up to the fans’ expectations and to regain the space they have recently ceded. Aramis' role, it goes without saying, will be a key factor in helping the team.
