Question:

Sore muscles from volleyball camp...?

We ran up and down stairs a lot, and we did pushups and situps and jumping. It feels good to exercise, but my body feels so weak and sore all over. It feels like my ribs are bruised, but you can't see any purple spots, it is just tender to touch and hurts. My thighs, calves, and butt muscles are also very sore. It hurts to laugh or sneeze or sit down. :-(

How can I heal my muscles and be ready for camp tomorrow?

I really want to make the team, and have been pushing myself to work extra hard at camp. Should I take it easy tomorrow so I don't seriously injure myself? :-(

Thanks for the help!

  1. i was like that 2. All i know to say is to use ice and just rest dont do anything that takes to much walking around or stuff like that and just get lots of sleep so your body and muscles are ready for camp tomorrow! Hope u get better:)

  2. Put a warm heating pad on spots that hurt the most. I'm sure you're just not used to working out that much. Do as much as you feel comfortable and if you start to hurt even more then tone yourself down a little bit.

  3. It's part of the sport!..lol.. I play varsity volleyball too andwe go through the same thing. Your body is just out of shape and will keep on hurting for the next couple of days until it gets use to it.. I remember my second day of volleyball I couldn't get out of the car because I was so sore.. But, anyhow, just take some Ibuprofen and ice your legs and muscles. This works too if you run track.. Good luck!! Just keep on streching and working out: you won't feel a thing once you are use to it!! And dont get icyhot patches: they sometimes make you worst!!

  4. I learned in softball camp that if you ice whatever muscles you have used in practice even if they don't hurt at the time it will help in the long run and the next day you muscles won't be cramped try icy hot to it works good for me during volleyball

  5. I played 16 games this weekend, and like you, all my joints are sore... but I have found the more fluids you get into your system... and some ibuprofen,  will give you the best start at recovery....

  6. i had the same problem at my volleyball camp a few years ago. it will feel better tomorrow once you get stretched. but make sure you drink a lot of water so your muscles wont get dehydrated and cramp. and DO stretch before and after.

if you need to, icy hot works great on knees.

  7. you just have to deal with it.

take a seven minute ice bath tonight.

    don't take it easy.

being sore won't make you injure yourself.

  8. stretch out as much as you can and just keep hydrated. basically your muscles are sore because you haven't worked them out to that extent. i know it sucks but the only thing you can do is just ignore them as much as you can and after a few days your muscles should get use to it and won't be as sore anymore.

  9. use a icyhot patch or something to relax the muscles and stuff.

you should probably take it easy tomorrow. the coach has more than likely seen that you are working really hard to make the team, if she asks tomorrow why you arent trying as hard mention that you are super sore and takin it easy today so you dont get injured.

    best of luck! (:

  10. ice baths will always break up the lactic acid in your muscle.....however you have to do it right after practice.....it's the only way to not be sore.....otherwise take some advil and strecth alot before practice...this will help you out short term.....if after practice you can not get into an ice bath then try and find a pool and do some laps it should help aleviate some soreness.  good luck

  11. wow i dont know how many times i've been in the exact same circumstance as you! the best thing to do is actually to keep working out and build up your muscles.

what i would do before going to bed was take a really hot bath with bubbles and if you have a jacuzzi or a hot tub, you should definately do that.

  12. everyone is sore at camp the third day is the worst cuz you are the most sore the fourth day it should be gone. just strech out a lot

  13. I had the same problem last year at camp and I've never felt anything like it before. What you should do, is eat bananas, drink lots of water.

They say to go home and fill the bathtub with cold water and ice. It cools and relaxes the muscles. Get plenty of rest and stretch after and before practice.

  14. HA i had the exact same thing from volleyball camp.

but mine only started hurting a little bit.

anyways just put on some hot packs, get someone to loosen up your muscles and take it easy.

then at the end of camp, book an appointment for a massage

  15. try using biofreeze it is like magic, i was at a volleyball camp and was sore so my mom got me some biofreeze and it was great!!!   i wasnt sore at all the next day

  16. What I did after tough camps is (after cooling down) take a nice long, hot bath: it relaxes the muscles. Get a good amount of rest, because this is the time when your body heals. Eat protien, it builds muscle. Don't skip camp: you're missing valuable practice time!

If those muscles are still really sore the next day:

    Stretch, stretch, stretch!

Try massagine the muscle, especially if when you try to massage it, it feels like a knot or really hurts. Even though it hurts, you'll be glad later when the muscle pain stops. :)

Eat protien for breakfast and lunch.

Drink Gatorade! It replenishes, rehydrates, refuels! xD Your body can stop worrying about your dehydration and start worrying about your aches and pains!

Basically, when your body works really hard, the muscles tear and then rebuild. They need time to repair, there is no quick fix. The best advice I can offer is to go to bed early and get a good REM sleep (Rapid eye movement (aka dreams)) .

Make sure you're pumped up for the next day and try your hardest, even though you're sore!

    -Hope this helps!
