  1. You should always work your upper body strength, but don't stop running to do so.

When you run, stand up tall, let your shoulders sag, keep your elbows at 90 degrees and swing your arms front to back, not across your body.

If you shoulders are sore you must be carrying your shoulders up rather than letting them relax.

It will make  you tense and tire sooner.

  2. Since you have been off of regular running, its probably just tight shoulders.

When you run long distances, our shoulders tends to ride up a little, this can cause sore shoulders.  Every once in a while shake your arms and keep them relaxed when you run. Make sure when your running, run with your back straight, shoulders aligned with your hips and looking straight ahead.Slouching or poor form can cause sore shoulders as well.   Do not over swing your arms.  Do some upper core strengthening exercises.  If really sore ice your shoulders for 10-15minutes/3X/day and take advil if needed.

If your doing all this, it should be fine.  You shouldn't have to quit running, especially if everything else is good and you still enjoy it.

If this persist, then seek a physiotherapist.

  3. First thing is first - how old are you? It could be arthritis old age might have get into you. Have yourself tested for any of this condition for prompt and proper treatment before going any further exercises.

  4. don't worry this is normal. when you run you have to make sure you keep your arms moving. when they don't they tighten up from being restrained. try picking up your arm swing and see if this helps. upper-body strength could have something to do with this but i don't think you'll have to stop running. as long as you stretch before and after you'll be fine.

    hope t helped!

    :)

  5. You should work out on your upper body, but don't stop running to do so. I used to get shoulder pain and it may be caused because your running form isn't proper. Make sure that you drop your shoulders while running and that you haven't clenched your fists into balls. This will stop your shoulders from being so tense and keep the pain away.
