I am a broadcaster and I work a very busy, long shift tomorrow and hte next 3 days afterwards, which I cannot call in sick for. I have a sore throat, but what is really affecting me is this chest congestion that occasionally makes my voice crack and sound very scratchy. I try to cough and clear my throat to have a clear sounding voice but my on-air work is non stop tomorrow morning and I need to have no problem talking.... I've tried hot tea and honey, Cepacol throat drops which don't help, robutussin..... is there anything else I can do today before I get up at 4:30am for work to help my voice?

  1. Well mostly i would try wat my mother gave me. It was boil some chopped onions and add some lemons and tea and drink the whole cup while its hot. That should work very well because it did with me. I hope works good for you.

  2. Go grab some theraflu [walmart/target/cvs/walgreens]. Its great and doesn't tast all that bad. You might want to add a little sugar.

  3. Go to the doctor???

  4. Try Fisherman's Friend.  They are nasty, gross lozenges but I have heard they work really well.

You could also try some slippery elm lozenges, you usually need to get those at health food stores.

  5. i actually use to be in radio.  Something scratchy like chips helped me get through a shift.  But it isnt a fix, only a get by.  call the doc.
