  1. drink ice cold water.... it's the only thing that i can drink when i have a sore throat.

  2. go into the bathroom, turn up the shower, and turn it as hot as it will go , sit on the toilet seat or something and breathe in the steam. you want to cough out all that icky stuff that's in your throat. other than that, drinking plenty of fluids and rest should do the trick.

    hope you feel better :)

  3. Warm water, slow sips: black pepper, ginger and some warm tea -- these are the home remedies, other than honey! some breathing exercise will also help: avoid cold food and drinks, breathe a lot of clean fresh air!

  4. Throw some salt in the back of your throat, it'll hurt for a few seconds, but it will feel better for a while.

  5. Hot salt water. Gargle it.

  6. gargle with teatree oil. I have also used whole plant echincaea tinctures. echinacea plants actually have a slight numbing effect (you can demonstrate this by actually eating the plant and seeing what it feels like), so if you get echinacea get it in an alcohol tincture (tastes better than glycerol) and see if you can get something with the words "whole plant". I've used this and it kinda numbs your throught a little bit and feels sorta bizzare and awesome at the same time

Also...this is going to sound absolutely disgusting and I don't blame you if you don't want to try it but...

    1 Tbsp honey

    1/2-1 tsp cayenne pepper

    1 small clove minced garlic

Those are the proportions, so you can double it, etc.

swallow 1 spoonfull every half hour. Cayenne pepper brings blood to the area (if you don't believe me just rub it on your skin and watch it turn red), and with blood comes white blood cells. Garlic boosts the immune system, and honey is an antiseptic and makes this concuction stick and coat your throat. If you aren't willing to do that, something I have done with my husband is mix some cayenne pepper into an unscented lotion and rubbed it on the neck area. Sometimes that can make your skin feel a little burn-y though so use very little and wash it off if it hurts.

Also, theres really no limit as to how much of the echincaea tincture you can take at a time. You could techincally drink the bottle (eew), but I've found that any more than 1 Tbsp at a time is a little uncomfortable

  7. You might think that i'm daft but a sure fire way to nip a cough or a sore throat in the bud ........ is to slice a lime or lemon into quarters, squeeze the juice into a cup of warm water and then, suck on another 1/4 of a lime or lemon rinsing your mouth out thoroughly afterwards to protect your teeth from the acid.

The vitamin C content of limes and lemons is so potent that it does a fine job of eliminating a cough and cold symptoms and sore throats by bolstering your immune system.

Just gotta be brave mate and suk on those limes.

Eat more foods rich in vitamin C ~ in particular, limes and lemons, also oranges, strawberries, blueberries, tomatoes, leafy and green vegies, red and green peppers.

vitamin C will bolster your immunity and help to torch those germs........... vitamin C also does a good job of lowering high blood pressure and acts as a natural laxative.

Loads of freshly squeezed juices are good too.

Pump up your fresh filtered water intake as the happiest and healthiest body will always be the most hydrated one.

Avoid sugar as bacteria will only multiply and feed on sugar. Also avoid B complex thieves such as caffeine, tea, sodas and soft drinks, alcohol .............. all these things will also do a great job of dehydrating you.

Paradoxically otc cold and flu meds and aspirin will also do a fine job of robbing you of your B complex of vitamins as well as your precious supplies of Vitamin C.

Take a B complex supplement as the B complex of vitamins are essential for healthy neural digestive and immune system functioning and will assist your body in dealing with stress of being ill ................ take one even after you recover.

Ensure you are drinking or eating something with Beta - carotene in it daily to heal quicker and in future to prevent further colds, as Vitamin A will aid in the proper function of the immune system, shorten the duration of illnesses and generally bolster the health of the mucosal lining of your ear nose and throat ie: carrott juice, pumpkin soups, eggs.

Eucalyptus oil has long been respected for its ability to lower temperatures and help the respiratory tract by loosening and removing mucus during attacks of bronchitis, coughs, flu, sinusitis and throat infections. Its antiviral and antibacterial action will deter further growth of the bacteria or virus.

Put a capfull of eucalyptus oil into a hot bath and soak in that for 15 - 20 minutes luxuriously inhaling the steamy wonderfull vapours.......... this will help enormously in loosening congestion and mucus from your chest and respiratory tract.

Put a few drops of eucalyptus oil also onto a hanky and lie it next to your pillow at night to help ease breathing.

Fill a salad bowl with hot water and put 1/2 a capfull of eucalyptus oil into it ~ make a tent with a towel over your head and lean over the bowl and inhale the steamy eucalypt vapours ........... being carefull not to get so close that you burn your face.

Caution ~ Do not use eucalyptus oil if you suffer from epilepsy or high blood pressure ....... if either is the case simply substitute with tea tree oil which is also a brilliant antiviral and antibacterial. Also do not use eucalyptus oil for pregnant or breastfeeding women or on infants or young children under 5 years of age. Under no circumstances should you ever ingest eucalyptus oil .... unless under the guidance of a fully qualified physician or naturopath.

Oh, ditch the milk and dairy for a while too as they will only encourage the production of more mucous ............ eat more fresh fish, organic almonds & brazil nuts and leafy and green vegies instead to pump up your intake of calcium.

    Good health to you.

be brave and eat the limes buddy ~ amazing stuff.

    cheers
