Question:

Sore throat with white spots on one side. No medical insurance. Will this go away on it's own in time??

I've had a mild-moderate sore throat for about 2 days now. This morning I looked in the mirror at the back of my throat and noticed on one side there are some small white patches. I've never had strep throat before but someone at work mentioned that's what it probably is. My doctor's office is closed over the long weekend and I can't afford $300 to go to the emergency room. I don't have medical insurance for this and am hoping that maybe this would resolve on it's own if I just rest after work today, take my vitamins and drink lots of fluids. ?? Thoughts?

What do you think it is and is it something I can just take care of myself without being seen? Tips? Any holistic remedies I can grab, like grapeseed extract or something??

Thanks.

  1. it wont go away its strep throat....if u have a Walgreens pharm. Store in your area they will test you for around $65 and prescribe an antibiotic for you which u can get filled at Walmart for only $4.

  2. It will go away why do you want to pay a Dr. to tell you to get some rest it's just a virus going around . That's what they always say.

You just need to Gargle with hydrogen peroxide it kills bacteria ,is great for swollen bleeding gums and can even be used in place of mouthwash.

If you don't have any then just gargle with warm salt water you don't need lemon just get a cup of water and make it as hot as you can tolerate it ant one table spoon of salt. Hope you feel better.

  3. sounding like strep, until this year i had never had strep throat and have 3 times this year.

if your feeling really exhausted also even more likely.

if/when you get to the doc, they will prescribe antibiotics. without them you might get rid of it on your own time but will take REALLY long/ it might come back.

all i can say is the general drink lots (i have a problem with that since my throat gets to sore to swallow generally) drinking with a straw for some reason i find helps. i drink lemon water since i like the taste and the lemon seems to help.

    goodluck!!!

  4. Sounds like Thrush no this will need medical attention.

Call Urgent care they are usually the same price as a local doctor and are open on weekends.

  5. It definitely sounds like strep. Although you may be able to make it through the long weekend, i wouldn't suggest any longer. Strep is a staff virus that can kill if you let it go long enough and is easily cured by antibiotics. Go see a doctor asap.

  6. No, you cannot cure this on your own.  You will need to seek medical assistance, it is an infection (maybe strep).  Try CareNow or give  Minute Clinic at CVS a call.  They are low cost ways to medical treatment over the weekend.

  7. Your pharacist should be able to identify if this is strep throat.

If it is and he advises you to go and get a prescription for anti biotics i suggest you find the money.

If you don't your immune system will attack this bateria and then start attacking your heart valves leaving you with Rheumatic heart disease.

If you want to try Alternative methods go ahead. they may be effective but I wouldn't chance it.

In this kind of circumstance i think the occasional use of Antibiotics to kill an infection and then stop taking the drug is appropriate.

  8. Sounds like strep. You should take around 900 mg echinacea daily. That will keep the colonies of bacteria from spreading. You can also buy the really strong listerine mouth wash and gargle back as far as you can like 3 times a day. good luck

  9. Sounds like strep and anti-biotic are needed - I do not know of another treatment.
