Question:

Soreness of jaw, neck/chest and armpits?

I am sore/tender under my jaw, on the top part of my chest (not b*****s - the bit between b*****s and neck), and under my armpits. Do I have a problem with my glands? I am currently taking antibiotics (Flagyl and Augmentin) for a bacterial infection, and I have recently started taking the pill (Yasmin) in the last few weeks after going on a break from it. What is making me sore?

  1. Glands are in exactly those areas. Do you feel any lumps in those areas? Would be quite small and possibly tender, easiest to feel under the front and sides of the jaw and deep in the armpit. These are called lymph nodes and they can swell up due to an infection. If this doesn't go away in the next two-three days see your doctor.

Yes I think that is the most likely cause. Lymph glands are full of immune cells that increase in number to fight infections. This is the cause of inflammation as these cells also release chemicals to the tissues, which in turn causes pain and swelling. If the antibiotics do their job the infection should start to lessen and the pain and swelling should go with it. If the pain persists, go back to your doctor.
