My 2 1/2 year old had a fever (101 up to 103.2) on and off all day yesterday. Now today, he has 2 large red sores (one on his bottom lip and one on his chin) and he also has a whole bunch of little red bumps around his whole mouth. Then I looked inside his mouth and he has white sores on his tongue and cheeks. What could this be?? And should I treat it at home or take him in?

  1. It sounds like hand, foot and mouth disease.  There isn't much than can be done for it other than rest and fever medicine.  It is always best to consult with your doctor.

  2. did he start teething yet? if he did that might be the problem he bites his cheeks, you should show this to a doctor. Wish you all the best:)

  3. There are SO many viruses going around as of late that I would take your lil guy in to check him out by a professional none the less just to make sure that all is well.

So at least if it's nothing you have nothing else to worry about ..BUT should it be more then just some sores and whatnot at least you've alerted medical professionals and they will be able to tend to his condition.

  4. Sounds like the thrush. It's a yeast infection that alot of infants and toddlers can get in their mouth. They can get this from putting dirty toys or items in their mouths. Also dirty hands can cause it. My son is a carrier of yeast infection. He used to get this type when he was an infant. Now it comes out on his fingers. I have to take him into the docs to get a prescription strength ointment to put on his fingers. Wash EVERYTHING! And since he has it in his mouth...sippy cups must be sterilized after each use. If the child is using a pacifier...sterilize that also. Not taking proper care to properly cleanse things can lead to bigger problems.

  5. You can't treat him if you don't know what it is.  Take him in to the doc.

  6. herpes

  7. Are there any blisters on the soles of his feet or palms of his hands? The blisters in his mouth sure sound like hand, foot, and mouth disease, but check his hands and feet. I would call the doctor either way, he will probably just tell you to reduce his fever and wash your hands frequently. Hope he feels better soon.
