  1. Well that is more like it I think you have some options now.  You could do a pretty good loop if you wanted from the International Airport to Arenal,up to Guanacaste and down to the Central Pacific Jaco area or Manuel Antonio.  If you are not driving there is a great tour that can pick you up in San Jose take you rafting on the Sarapiqui River and then drop you off in Arenal.

if you are driving you could just drive straight up to Arenal with a stop at :

    Poas Volcano

    La Paz waterfall

There is lots of stuff to do in Arenal like hot springs and waterfall rappelling.  If you want beginner waves I think Tamarindo is a good choice but if you want to learn a little more about all the waves in Costa Rica you gotta check out this surf guide

should you end up going to Tamarindo or perhaps Mal Pais/ Samara or Nosara for a couple days you would still have plenty of time to go visit you sister down at Los Suenos just outside of Jaco.  Jaco has quite a bit of surfing as well the waves really vary sometimes it is good for beginners other times it can be a little rough.

Should you decide to head further south into Manuel Antonio the Parador is a very nice hotel and there is white water rafting there as well on the Savegre river or the Narajano river.  The only problem right now is there has been a lot of flooding in the guanacaste and Nicoya Peninsula areas so it could be challenging staying on a schedule should you decide to go up into those areas.

  2. You could easily do Arenal and then Monteverde, and probably  Manuel Antonio.  If you have any time left, maybe do Braulio Carrillo and Volcan Poas national parks as day trips from San Jose.
