  1. front right is basically a position for a spiker. ... and you said you can nail it over the net if its given to you, so thats great! you will usually play after the setter (middle front) hits (sets0 the ball to you. but if the serve comes straight to you then the safest thing would be to bump the ball right back over the net. if its a tough or hard-served ball- hit it straight up and move out of the way so someone on ur team can help you! the main thing about receiving the serve in the front is NEVER to spike on a serve. this will be called!!!

your only problem may be jumping high so just practice some net drills ( run, jump and try to get your hand or @ least fingertips over the net w/o touching the net)........ and if you have more Q's you can always ask your coach for personal advice- im sure they'd be glad to help you! :-)

Glad to help--- i hope i helped!

  2. how old are you?

hate to be rude but if you stay that height and continue to play volleyball you will never hit....

focus on your passing....really it's the most valuable skill to be learned and you can go a long way with it

  3. What's your position?

You just said in the front.

In the front there are the Setter, hitters, outside hitters.

Also, if you can only hit when you are ready for it, you will never most likely be a hitter. You have to be quick and know what's going on and always be ready to spike it! :]

Also, height does play a little role, if you were short, you should be in the middle.

What your coaches are probably trying to do is let you work in the front and get better at it, while the tall people who are good at the front are working in the back!

It happens a lot with Freshman and below teams and club volleyball.

  4. Okay, ignore the comment by bananasandwich, I am a spiker for my jv team and I am 5'1". It depends on how high you can jump, not how tall you are. You will mainly spike, set, or sometimes block. It depends what your coach has you do in the positioning. On my team, front right is a setter, but on my friend's team front right is the opposite hitter, which is normally for the position you are playing.

Opposite hitters or Right side hitters carry the offensive workload for a volleyball team. Their primary responsibilities are to attack the ball from the right side and to put up a well formed block against the opponents Outside Hitters. This player hits the most balls on the team. He/she is set from the front row and the back row. Sets to the opposite usually go to the right side.

Setters have the task for orchestrating the offense of the team. They aim for second touch and their main responsibility is to place the ball in the air where the attackers can place the ball into the opponents' court for a point. They have to be able to operate with the hitters, manage the tempo of their side of the court and choose the right attackers to set. Setters need to have swift and skillful appraisal and tactical accuracy, and must be quick at moving around the court.

After the serve, you can not spike it over, because that is an illegal move, if it comes to you, you should pass it to another person, or bump it over. Remember when you spike it, that no part of you can touch the net.
