What does green poo mean? Is that sign of infection, does she need to see the doctor? She seems healthy but what's up with that?

  1. No, it's not a sign of infection.  Is she breastfed?  It might be that she's getting too much foremilk and not enough hindmilk.  If she is breastfed, try block feeding.  Only nurse from one breast for a few feedings in a row.  Let her nurse from the right breast- and the right breast only for 3-4 hours (2-3 feedings).  Then let her nurse from the left breast.  You left breast might get slightly engorged while you're not nursing from it- but you need to signal to your body to make a little less breastmilk so that it's not making as much foremilk.

  2. Poo can be every color of the rainbow....... green, gray, blue, orange, black....ect....ect, it does not mean anything, it can even be diff. consistancies, from runny, to rock hard to even seedy looking, the color and texture variaty is a mystery to me, but trust me its completely normal.... =)

  3. for what? a dog or human? a baby or toddler?

  4. Sometimes the color of baby's poo changes, just like adults.  Is she on solids?  That could have something to do with it.  Different foods, different colors.  If she's not acting sick, then she's fine.

  5. It's normal for breast fed babies.

  6. The color of stools are the result of two things 1- the food going into the body or 2) a stomach virus.

If she seems fine and you haven't changed anything in her diet then it might be a bug that she has but no need to take her to the doctors = she will come into contact with many stomach bugs

  7. First of all, how old is she and what has she eaten? Older babies who are taking solids often pass things shockingly similar to how they went in. So, if you've given your baby a green food, that could be why.

In younger babies, green-tinged bowel movements are pretty normal. Both formula fed and breastfed babies can have green-looking stools. It is usually not a cause for concern. The green can be caused by iron in the diet, especially in formula-fed babies, who are eating iron-fortified formula.

An infection or virus would cause a much brighter green stool, and probably other symptoms as well - diarrhea, vomiting, or some other indication that baby is sick. If you are worried, definitely give baby's doctor a call, even for just your peace of mind. Best of luck.
