Hi! I just had my first daughter 3 weeks ago, and I'm still bleeding. How long does that usually last? Also - When I wipe, its red. But whats on my pad is brown...and it has almost like an odor to it. I wouldn't think anything like an infection, at least I hope not. But I think it just smells funny.

Don't say anything like take a shower, thats not the problem! And I haven't had s*x, so I haven't given myself an infection that way or anything.

Anyway - anyone else have similar issuses? Thanks!

  1. It all sounds normal to me, I have had 3 babies in the past 3 years, and experienced the same thing with all 3. Can last up to a few months to be honest. Usually 2-6 weeks is pretty normal though. Congrats on the new little one!

  2. Well the bleeding last for up to like 1 month to a month and 1/2 so good luck on that one you might have a way to go. One of the reasons that you are bleeding also as much as you are can be because you may be doing to much like any walking or cleaning or activities that you do causes it to bleed more. Also the smell may be from the blood and the mucus that comes out its not supposed to be horrible but some smell may be common and not have an infection. The one that lands on the pad is brown because its just blood that's old after some time but when you wipe its obvious that that it just came out. I think you are fine good luck :)

  3. I bled for 4 weeks after having my daughter.  It's common for women to keep bleeding even up until 6 weeks.  The bleeding may stop and start again as well.

  4. With my first and only experience it was the same for me. I bleed for about four weeks and the same thing on the pad and toilet paper! There is just more blood then usual some could be dried up blood also! For the smell blood always has a sticky smell! Well I hope this eases your mind, and by the way Congrats!!

  5. Everything you mentioned is completely normal... It usually last between 4 to 6 weeks to stop bleeding and your last week is usually brown and smelly.. Totally normal! Don't worry... Congratulations

  6. I would have to say that this is normal. I have three children with my youngest only a couple months old. As for the bleeding it may go on for 6 weeks mine did with all three of my children. The blood on the pad may be brown because its old blood. Brown blood is old blood or it may be that color on the pad because it has been there for a short while. The blood when you wipe is fresh blood and while it may seem gross its normal. And it will have an odor and very unconfortable. IT will probably make you very self conscious. But with time it will go away, just one of the not so nice things with having children.
