Question:

Sort of funny roommate dispute?

This morning, my ceiling was leaking a lot of water onto the carpet and there was already a big puddle on the carpet so I quickly ran to the kitchen and found a (used) pot and put it on the floor below the leak. I then quickly called my landlord and they came and fixed the leak. The problem is, the pot is my roommates' and when he found out, he was angry and demanded that I buy him a new pot (he even slammed his door!). Should I buy him a BRAND NEW pot or wash the (used) pot with soap and boiling water and refuse to buy a new pot? Please note that I do not own any pots or empty containers so I couldn't have used any of my property to collect the water.

  1. Sheesh I'd get a new room mate!

Wash out the pot the way you described and tell your roommate to grow up!  Nuff said!

If this were People's Court the judge would throw your friend out on his behind for wasting the court's time.

If your friend is worried about germs ask him how much bacteria he thinks collects in a pot that has been used and is sitting in the sink for several hours.

  2. Just wondering? where was the leak coming from,do you have an upstairs neighbor with a leaky toilet or what? I might get weird about it if that were the case, but other than that I would have to agree buy him a new pot then look for a new roommate. If your roommate is on the rental agreement I would think they would appreciate your quick action to avoid further damage to the carpet/flooring. Sounds like there might be other things bugging your roomy? I suggest finding out the real issue but don't breathe on him, he may sue you! Good luck and keep an empty 5 gal bucket around for emergencies

  3. You just became an owner of an used pot.  If he was angry about the pot, then buy him a new one just to keep the peace.

  4. If the leaking water rusted the pot, you should buy him another one. But I don't think that just using the pot to collect water for a small amount of time did any permanent damge, so washing it out should be just fine.

  5. Use plenty of soapy water or run it in the dishwasher, it's absolutely ridiculous for your roommate to request a completely new pot.  And if they balk, start looking for a new roommate.

  6. Your roomie is acting like a little bit*h . Wash the darn pot and leave it by his door ... and let it go at that .

  7. Give him a day, and hopefully he will cool off.

If not, tell him you will either wash the pot for him, or keep that pot for yourself and buy him a new one. If he still wants a new one, buy a cheap one from the grocery store or Walmart.
