  1. Raphael is a vampire from England.  

    To obtain his and the other characters' full backgrounds, you can look at the "Chain of Souls" from the "Museum" menu after you beat the story mode with them on Soul Calibur IV. The previous versions of the game also offer a look into the backgrounds of each character.
