Question:

Soul Searching on a Career

Hi, I have a week until my senior year starts, and I kind of just barely have an idea of what I want to do for the rest of my life. But my hearts not completely set on it, It just seems like its the only thing that would make me remotely happy doing as a career. In short, there is really nothing that I like to do as a career except this one thing and this one thing isn't so exciting for me either.

How did you guys pick your careers, what are they, and do you have any regrets?

  1. honey, don't think of this as doing it for the rest of your life.  you are not stuck doing anything the rest of your life.  i began a career in early childhoold education in 1975 and after 25 years i retired from it and am now considering a career in human resources or admin assistant.  and you don't have to wait 25 years to make the change..  get your degree, work for awhile and see how things go.  you will pick up so many skills that with your degree, you can venture into other areas.  nothing is forever.......well, except maybe taxes.

  2. hi, i am about to start grade 12 as well and i became very occupied with finding a career, i swear i could tell you the job description and annual salary of every job out there. lol  but seriously, i just looked up and researched everything, even if i thought i wouldn't be interested in it.  i didn't think i would be interested in nursing and thats what i chose.  i also suggest talking to career counsellors and taking career tests although i didn't find they helped me much either.  but talking to lots of people with different jobs and ones that know lots about jobs is very good.  they may suggest something that never crossed your mind.  once you find something you think you would like, talk to people in that line of work and if you can, volunteer at it.  find out if its what you want for sure.  another thing i advise is to not be scared of college years.  each year you do gives you more retirement time and a funner, easier going life.  you have so many years so don't be scared of giving at least 4 years to college.  you will never regret another year of education.

good luck and if you want let me know what you choose!
