I babysit my step brother and sister while my mom is at work every day during summer vacation, and after school while we are in school. I am 14, the girl is 10 adn the boy is 8. Should my parents pay me?

They say if i want to earn money i should do more around the house (clean; cut the grass)

Should they pay me?

  1. NO! They are your siblings... not strangers!

  2. They don't have to pay you.  They could, but they're not obligated.  They're providing you with everything you need..food, shelter, etc, etc.  As you get older you gain more responsibility.

I'm 26 and I'm driving to my parents house every day to take care of the yard etc, while they're on vacation.  I'm not getting paid and I don't want to be.  I'm happy to do it considering all they've done for me.

  3. No....You should try to make an extra EFFORT, and clean and do all the other things they're asking, and then you should get an allowance.....

  4. yess! If u babisit everyday! I mean @ least once a week!

  5. yes you should be paid for your work

  6. Should you pay them for letting you stay in their house, or eating their food?

  7. you shouldn't even be babbysitting at that age well no not really because well one there your parents and 2 well they should already be paying for your stuff like clothes and food so no not really.

  8. I believe you should get paid a little bit since you are spending your whole summer watching your siblings. YOu should help clean as well too. Your parents should not have to pay you a huge pay day though. Think about it , your parents provide for you all the time. They go out and work very hard to pay for your food, your house, and your things. They spend their very own money to  provide for you the things that you need. They do not ask you to buy your own food, buy your own shampoo, pay the light bill, or any other expenses. So by watching your siblings you are contributing to the family. You are helping them out and that is what families are all about . If your parents work and do not have time to clean and mow the grass because they are out working to put food on your table, then you should try to help them out too. Yes, you do deserve some pay but you should think about how much they give to you already.

  9. No, the don't have to pay you.

They really don't have to pay you for doing chores either, but if that is what you have to do to get paid, then do chores around the house.

  10. They do not have to pay you to babysit your siblings. If you are wanting to earn some money come up with a plan. Include the time you spend babysitting and any other chores you do and request that they pay you an allowance if they can afford it.

Even if they don't pay you babysitting will give you good skills and background when you do start job hunting. Just be respectful and mature with your parents and let them know that you want to start earning money. If you show them that you are mature enough to help around the house and take care of your siblings they may be willing to discuss it.

I would offer a trail basis as well. So after so long if they feel you aren't doing a good enough job to get paid then thats that. You have to remember they are your parents and they don't have to pay you and neither should they. Getting paid to babysit is strictly a privilege. It also depends on your parents financial situation. Maybe they can't afford to pay you and you should consider all they do for you and not take that for granted.

  11. depends on how much money there is

  12. no

  13. NO WAY! You should NOT be paid for that.

  14. some times they should

I baby sit my 3 brothers soon to be 4 they either buy me something or they give me money

maybe you would concider tafe when your older IM

17 and i do child services

but sometimes its a real blessing to do it for them for free

    cate

  15. my best friend watches her bro all day during the summer and gets paid 20 bucks a week--of course, she also does little things like fold the laundry and wash the dishes. I'd offer to do a couple little tasks around the house for a weekly allowance.

  16. yes they should because ur giving away ur time to babysitt               but u should get paid less because they arent babies

  17. They should at least buy your school clothes and stuff you need if their not gonna pay you.

  18. they are your siblings.. you should want to do it for free...you are not necessarily babysitting them... you are living with them. its nice to do your parents a favor so they can go to work and pay for you to have school clothes and other necessities.

  19. i dont think so. i babysat my brother and had the exact same situatuion as you have right now. i never got paid out right but if my mom and i went to get grocerys we would stop at hte mall and get me a shirt or something. i fyou want to get paid than i would suggest doing some chores around the house to earn it.

  20. if it's family then no. but for chores around the house, then yes.

  21. since it's a regular thing, yeah i think they should. but not as much as if you were babysitting someone else's kids. maybe settle on a weekly payment and offer to do some chores while babysitting?

  22. they're old enough that you shouldn't have to supervise them too much unless they're brats. so if they are little buggers then you should get paid; otherwise no you shouldn't.  And if you need away around babysitting them, get yourself involved in sports or music or something productive so that you're not available all the time

  23. It's called helping your family out.

Just think of all the things your parents do for you...I'm sure you understand now.

I would rather have my family teach my important values than not to.

Because when I grow up, I'll get a job and get lots of money, but if my parents didn't teach me values, I wouldn't KNOW IT FOR THE FUTURE!

Just think about it like that.
