Sould I go to the Air Force Acadmey or to north dakota to be a pilot?

If you can get into the air force academy you should really go for it. Thats a top notch education, for free!  

If your goal is to become a pilot that might not be the best way, there is very stiff competition for flight school, and once you're in there is a good chance you won't make it (nothing personal, but a high percentage of people don't) Don't let me, or anyone discourage you, you absolutely can do it if you are smart enough and have a natural ability to fly.

If you have the smarts to make it to flight school then I think it would be a good idea for you to go spend a few hours in a plane and learn the basics so once you make it into flight school you will have an advantage.

If you don't think thats you (and be honest with yourself) and you really want to fly UND is a great school. Not the way I would go but unlike other programs out there, I wouldn't discourage anyone from going to UND.

Another option is learning to fly at a local FBO at a small airport and getting a degree from the college of your choice. This is typically the best idea for most people but its a decision for you to make.  

This is a decision that will consume 4-6 years of your life, do your homework and make an informed decision.

my hubby went to USNA and became a pilot and that was really great!  He loved it!  His brother went the private civilian route and his flight training school in Idaho went bankrupt right before he was done and now he spent a ton of money and doesn't have his instrument rating...

You have a choice?    

You have to be selected to get into the Air Force Academy.  And even if you get in that does not mean you will graduate and if you graduate that does not mean you get to be a pilot.

If you go to North Dakota I assume you are talking about some sort of flight school.   Go there.   At least if you get in you will learn how to fly.
