  1. It kinda depends what you are playing right now.  If you're going to keep playing for a few more years, then it's probably worth it.  You have to remember that, assuming you're renting one now, it's always worth purchasing it, if you can afford the $ upfront.  When/if you stop playing it, you'll at least own it and be able to recover at least half your money, assuming you took good care of it.  And in the meantime, you'll have been playing a better quality instrument.

In other words, you can spend $900 renting a cheaper instrument for three years ($25/month) or you can buy a better quality instrument for, let's say, even $2,000 and at the end of the three years sell it for $1,000.  You'll have paid the same amount of money over the three years but had a MUCH better instrument.

  2. if you are good, have the cash, and intend to keep playing a long time,....why not spoil yourself?

  3. Hi Indy:

Yes.  You have been playing long enough that you are no longer a beginner and need the advanced model to continue your growth and development in clarinet.   Buffet is the most recommended brand from beginner clarinets all the way to professional models.    The E-11 is not the professional model  (that is the R-13)  but it is a fine clarinet and will take you the rest of the way through high school... maybe beyond.

Again... if you have the desire to get a new clarinet ... you deserve it!!!

    Thanks for reading.
