hi, im currently a student studying Software Engineering at Auckland University. I live in New Zealand and am thinking of getting a job in the US and moving to LA and work as a software engineer there. I have a masters degree, will that increase my employment oppurtunities? is it reasonable to move to LA, and also, are the women good?

  1. Yes, i think you should move to LA. I live in California and LA is just an hour drive from my house, if you have a master's degree then you have a really good chance of getting a job, and yes the women are good :D

  2. software - network jobs are being outsourced to india. unless you were born here, your chances of immigrating are slim to none.  your best chance is taking a trip to mexico and sneak into the country

  3. Yes, LA is the best.

  4. FIRST, get the job, and THEN move to LA.  ... The housing and cost of living are much more than you'll be expecting, and having a master's degree is no guarantee of a job.  The aerospace industry regularly has large lay-offs, and a job would depend on whether they've gotten new contracts recently.  You might also consider around Cape Canaveral in Florida, or the Houston (Texas) Space Center.  Ask in the sections for those cities, to see if anyone knows if the job market is good there......

  5. A master's degree will get you SOMETHING in California. Just make sure you really want to come.

  6. You cannot get a security clearance until you are a US citizen.

What you need to do is to find a job first where the employer will sponsor an H-1B visa. Then, an application has to be filed next April 1st for one. Then you get entered into a lottery where you have a 40% chance of actually getting one. Then you can start work in October 2009.

Actually, it may be faster to move to Canada, where you do not need a job lined up to immigrate. Then after three years you can become a citizen. Once you are a Canadian citizen, you can work in the USA on a TN visa which has no quota and you can get one essentially instantly once you get a US job offer.

  7. As one of the women, I have to be honest and say we're great, not just good.  ;-)

Yes, I'd move to LA, and a masters will help.  So will a security clearance (you never know what kind of s'ware application and for whom, so security clearance always a good idea and shows you're serious).

You need to do some research on the different areas of LA:  all the neighborhoods are as different as chalk and cheese.  For example, do you surf?  If so you don't want to be too far inland because you'll spend more time driving to the beach than you will surfing.  Why don't you ask a question about the best areas for a single guy, and the best way to meet people in LA?

    Good luck!

  8. Yes sir you should move here.

    Woman

    Weather

    Food

    Palm Trees

Keep in mind our beaches aren't the cleanest but our....is the greenest!

Wish you best of luck, Remember just because you have a good job don't treat others less and think of yourself has hot ****, If you aren't like that best of luck my friend welcome to America...

P.S. if Cali doesn't work move to NY!
