  1. try but you don't need costumes i go skating in a sport outfit i love skating!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  2. You should do whatever you want to. I suggest trying it, because I did and now I love playing hockey.

  3. yes you should try it...try to think up creative ways to raise money that you can actually do at your age

  4. Take some lessons and see if you really like it and if you do, go for it.  I know ice skating lessons, the skates are expensive, but that is the sacrifice for something you love to do, and maybe if your parents see how much you want to do it, they might change their minds. You could also do chores for money

The ice skating clothes aren't expensive. It depends on what you want to wear. There are various things you could wear:

    1: tights and skirt

    2: skating pants (black)

    3: regular form fitting shirts

    4: regular gloves

5: trouser socks( 2.99 for two pairs)

    6: mix and match

I do agree the skates cost a lot

around 80-300 dollars, depending on what company and level

the distance from my house to the skating rink is about 40 minutes too, i just work it out on whoever is driving me that day and they drop me off and come back when my lesson is over.

Follow your heart and Good Luck!

  5. i think you should last year i went skating for the first time ever and i loved it so i decided to take lessons it was the best thing i ever did as i am already learning jumps so i think you should as for the expenses depending where you live it shouldn't cost to much try saving up money and getting a part time job and remember have fun !!! i hope this helps

  6. Many skaters live 40 minutes from their rink. There is a rink right next to my house (like I can just walk there in 20 minutes), but there are rinks I like going to far more (more quiet, cheaper, far better ice, etc...) and I can take an hour just getting there. You just get used to it.

Cost is an issue of course (mostly coaching though). I reccomend not to buy ice skates immediately, you don't even know if you even like the sport yet. A good pair of skates and blades for a beginner will cost you around 400 dollars, but if you take good care of them, they can be good for around 3 years (or until you outgrow them). If you buy cheap skates for 100 dollars, they will become useless in less than a year. It's just cheaper in the long run to buy quality.

If you don't compete, practise outfits are cheap. I bought a practise skirt like 6 years ago and it's still perfectly good (couldn't have cost me more than 20 dollars). Tights are like 10 dollars and I just wear regular T-shirts and sweaters.

Coaching can be expensive. As a beginner that isn't even sure you'll even like the sport yet, try group classes in the figure skating school of your rink, you'll save a LOT of money and a lot of rinks give you a limited amount of free ice time during public sessions each month which is a good idea to use.

If you know how to save (at least for the time being because you won't be competing for quite a while), skating doesn't have to be uber expensive as a beginner. Oh, if you do buy ice skates, take good care of your blades and don't let them get filled with rust. Dry them very well with a towel after every skate.

  7. maybe you could try:

    a. being really nice to your mom

    b. letting her know (without pestering her) how much it would mean to you to try ice skating

    c. coming up with some money-earning ideas.

if you're just starting, you don't need special clothes, just regular clothes that allow for freedom of motion. start with group lessons rather than private lessons (they're cheaper, good at the early levels, and you also meet more people), and try rental skates at first instead of buying your own right away (assuming your rink has good rentals.)

(note: sometimes it's a matter of gentle persistence. I gently and sweetly bugged my mom for literally years before she finally let me take skating lessons.)

good luck with skating and have a great day!

  8. I think you should definitely try it! Start taking group lessons, they are the least expensive way to learn the basics. most rinks have learn-to-skate programs.

As for buying skates, I recommend waiting until you learn the basics and decide if skating is what you want to do.  Also, you don't need a costume unless you compete which wont be for a while.

In my lessons, I wear either sweat pants and a long sleeve shirt or shorts over tights and  a long sleeve shirt.

If money is an issue, see if you can do some work around the house for your mom to earn money, or if you have a bday  coming up, tell your relatives that your saving up for skating and ask for money instead of gifts.

    Good Luck!!!!

  9. Sure. Go ahead.

  10. follow your heart

  11. at first its not too expensive but it may get expensive soon like, okay:

i'm 13 and i've been skating for 2 years i'm on the pre pre level and i need these things:

a pair or 600 dollar skates, tights, dresses, ice time, ballet lessons, etc.

but, as you are just starting all you have to do is wear some jeans a long sleeve shirt and rent some skates.

this way you can skate a while and find out if you really like it or not if you don't then you don't have to worry about wasting alot of money on equipment.

well, good luck hope u love skating as much as i do!!! ( - 8

  12. If some of your friends skate then suggest carpooling with them to the rink to cut down on your parents road time.  Busses too, maybe?

  13. Oh yes sure! im 13 too =) i live far from my rink too but i figure skate i have just started a month ago=).
