Question:

Sound Proofing Walls In my Home?

My neighbours are oldish people and it would appear that they have trouble with their hearing. They have their TV on full blast every night it is very annoying, I can sometimes actually hear word for word what is being said on their television. I was wondering what is the best thing to do about this - I was considering sound proofing the one side of the house... would this eliminate the sound coming through the walls. They are very nice people but the noise is ridiculously loud

  1. Maybe try getting the house insulated on that side... Depending on where you live you can have insulation blown into the wall... Or you can use styrofoam sheets and cover with drywall.  Styrofoam is very, very noiseproof...

Or you may want to tell them of your dilema and see how they respond... Maybe they need hearing aides.. Or use the WHISPER 2000 or MIRACLE EAR products.... There's also a product called SONIC hearing that you wear in your ear and it amplifies sounds...

    Good luck

  2. Insulation will have a small effect. That will slow down the sound traveling through the hollow wall cavity, but the sound will still be transmitted through the wall framing. The best way to resolve the situation (besides turning off the neighbors electric...LOL) is to build a second wall in front of the existing wall and make sure nothing touches the existing wall. Use sound proofing insulation in the new wall.

Pretty expensive solution, but it the best way to deal with the sound transfer.
