Sound Waves?

Hi

Can Someone Explain To Me exactly how sound waves travel please and how different parts of sound waves change to give differences in amplitude, pitch and how for each of these do we hear sound differently.

  1. They travel in compressions and rarefactions - the air pushes the air infront of it which pushes the air in front of that. The air itself doesn't move (just forwards and backwards back to where it started) but the energy is transmitted along - just like a row of dominoes the domino itself doesn't move but the wave goes along.

    As for pitch, thats just the frequency (Hz) how many waves arrive a second, amplitude is how loud it is.
