Sound help on Windows Vista?

Question

I've had my computer on mute for a while and I just plugged in my headphones and tried to take it off mute, the alert came on and I heard the sound but it seems to be stuck on mute now, because I tried watching a Youtube video and there was no sound? Help?!

Right click on the volume icon on the taskbar > playback devices > highlight speakers icon > properties > levels tab.make sure its not muted
