Sound in 02 neon engine help plz?

ok i have a 02 neon and its a manual...2.0 liter engine with a k/n intake thats all thats on it...well the problem is today i woke up and drove my car and the engine didnt sound the same...it sounded like hmmm i cant explain it its like an old car ...u kno how an old car that needs a muffler or something? well it sounded like inside the engine and ya i speed with alot! ...i thought the k/n filter came off but its not even that...it just somthing maybe with the air flow maybe but i dont think its the exaust its like maybe the headers or something its just this old car sound ...and it happens when i press the gas like half way but when i acually drive careful and like how an old person drives then u cant hear it just when i try to pick up a lil speed

First of all you had alot of words but no real info. I suggest you take it to a shop. Most do free estimates. Also be sure air filter is properly installed. Dirt will wreck an engine!!

i apologize for being old, but if you live long enough and stop offending people you'll make it too.  Why don't you find a place you can crawl under the car and see if the muffler or exhaust pipe has a leak in it.  Another trick to  use is the put a rag over the tail pipe and listen for a leak.
