  1. A noisy city like downown New York is about 85 decibels.

A quieter city should be about 70 decibels.

The countryside on a calm day, without cars or tractors, is around 30 decibels.

Near a road, with some cars passing by, is about 50 decibels.

Sound becomes dangerous if it's over 120 decibels or so.  At this level it will damage your ears immediately.  At about 100 decibels, you'll gradually lose hearing if you're exposed for hours at a time.
