Last night I had sound coming out of the headphones and speakers. I'm using a Compaq FS740. I can no longer get any sound out of the headphone jack built into the tower, or the speakers that came with the monitor. Everything is plugged in correctly and sound properties are set right. Nothing has changed since I last got sound out of them. I can get very very very soft and limited sound out of the headphone jack built into the speakers. The only thing I think might be wrong: I had a cell phone by the speakers for a little while.

  1. You must have MULTIPLE volume controls between your audio software and your computer's sound card that have DEFAULTED back to their original settings....

You have sound, but it's SOFT sound.....that's the KEY to your problem...

One more possibility is that the computer's sound setup has decided to route the sound to another device, like ONBOARD audio devices have taken over and your "soundblaster" is no longer recieving instructions/data from your software package.....
