Sound of motor changing

Question

Hi there,
When I lower my vacuum head closer to the carpet, I hear a change in that the roller is definetly hitting the carpet, but I do not hear that the sound of the motor has changed. Am I missinterpreting the sounds or should there be a disctinct change in the motor sound and not just the sound of the roller spinning against the carpet.
